avrillavigne_PhotoAvril Lavigne’s new album track 17 has leaked onto the internet. The track is rumoured to be a single at some point during her self-titled album campaign. Avril has performed the track live on a couple of occasions.

17 is a throwback track to Avril’s youth. The song wouldn’t sound out of place on Avril’s debut album Let Go. It also wouldn’t sound out of place on a Taylor Swift album. It’s a country-pop song with a chorus melody that radio will eat up if it’s released as a single. It’s co-written by Avril and Jacob Kasher Hindlin and produced by Martin Johnson (Boys Like Girls).

Avril Lavigne’s self-titled fifth studio album will be released on November 5th.

Katy Perry has teamed up with MTV and Pepsi to ask fans to vote between two songs called Walking On Air and Dark Horse to be released before her new album Prism drops. At the moment Dark Horse is winning but I’m hoping Walking On Air catches up because I think it’s the better of the two.

Walking On Air is very 90’s dance with care-free, cool vocals from Katy. The falsetto during the chorus line “I’m walking on air” is such a strong hook that it’s stuck on repeat in my head. While some have called the song faceless, I think it’s typical Katy with hints of Hummingbird Heartbeat emerging from the melody. Take a listen to Walking On Air below:

Dark Horse is a ballad and the preview is building up to what sounds like the track dropping out before a breakdown. However, for me, the song feels ruined by the ridiculous Dr. Luke Ooh La La vocoder used just before the breakdown. It’s completely unnecessary and ruins a potentially great song. Vote for your favourite track to be released early on the MTV website. Prism is out on October 22nd.

Miley Cyrus – “Wrecking Ball” New Album Track

tumblr_ms2k02Fw7s1saom5so2_1280Miley Cyrus has released a new track called Wrecking Ball from her upcoming album Bangers as part of the iTunes pre-order. Wrecking Ball definitely isn’t a “banger” but it’s a great song and completely different from the lead single We Can’t Stop.

Wrecking Ball is a ballad with a big rock chorus and definitely a contender for a single at some point. It sounds like a more current When I Look At You mixed with Firebomb by Rihanna and lyrically verging on Jordin Sparks’ Battlefield. The verses are much stronger than the chorus because they’re more original.

Bangers is out on October 7th.

The MNEK remix of Flatline is very 90’s and includes some unheard vocal takes from the girls.

the-saturdays-disco-loveThe Saturdays’ new single for Disco Love premiered this morning on Capital FM. Disco Love is the 3rd single from their upcoming 5th studio album which is expected to be released in October.

Disco Love was produced by Icelandic producers StopWaitGo. It has a modern, feel-good, disco sound and completely different to the previous two singles from this album campaign. There are similarities to Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Alphabeat’s The Spell, especially on the chorus. Overall, Disco Love is very instant and could potentially be another big hit for The Saturdays.

Frankie is the only member with no solos, possibly due to her pregnancy as she won’t be around during promotion for this single.

Disco Love is out on October 6th.
